Select Countertops and Backsplashes the Easy Way!
Shopping for new countertops doesn’t have to feel daunting, even with countless options available! Knowing your priorities will help make the process of selecting and purchasing new countertops straightforward and enjoyable. When considering countertops for your home, what is essential for you? Most people want countertops that are easy to maintain, have a beautiful appearance, and come at a fair value. Your aesthetic goals and durability requirements will determine what materials will be the best option for you. Do you prefer a countertop that will continue to look new for years or a ‘living countertop,’ such as marble or soapstone that will patina with daily use and convey the narrative of your household’s activities?
We make it easy to navigate the myriad options available today for countertops, backsplashes, feature walls and fireplace surrounds. When you meet with one of our countertop experts at our Vancouver store, tell us about your priorities so we can guide you towards the best material options to suit your needs.
Countertop Considerations
Look, Style, & Feel
Since countertops are available in a wide range of visuals, qualities, and price points, first think about the aesthetic that appeals to you and consider how your new countertops will relate with other elements in your home such as cabinets, hardwood floors, backsplash, and wall color. If you want a countertop that commands attention like a fine work of art, consider natural stone slab or higher-end quartz slab. You might choose to continue the same slab countertop onto the backsplash for overall impact or install a simpler backsplash tile to complement a statement countertop. If you prefer to feature a decorative backsplash, consider a more muted visual for your countertop.
Durability & Performance
What are your expectations for how your new countertops will perform and how do these align with your lifestyle? Do you expect to be able to put a hot pan straight onto the counter from the oven without risk of the countertop cracking? Are you ok with periodically applying a sealer to a natural stone countertop, or prefer the lowest maintenance possible? Not all materials will perform the same, so it is important to state your needs and expectations when you visit our Vancouver countertops store, so we can have an informative discussion to help you choose the best countertops for your specific situation.
Your durability requirements will determine what materials will be the best option for you. If you want a heat-resistant slab, consider granite, quartzite, or soapstone. Marble stays cool to the touch, which makes it a wonderful countertop option for rolling out cookie and pastry dough. The lowest maintenance countertops are made of quartz slab, but they can be sensitive to heat. Porcelain slabs are resistant to heat and easy to maintain, but the patterns are only on the surface, not all the way through the material.
